A Dog and a Piece of Meat

Once there was a greedy dog who stole a piece of meat from a butcher's shop. Stealing the piece of meat he was searching for a suitable place to eat it. As other dogs were running after him to enjoy a share, he had to run as fast as he could. On the way, he found himself on a bridge and when he looked towards the river from there he saw another dog holding another piece of meat.

He was unaware of the fact that it was his own reflection. So, he yearned for having that piece of meat too. "Today, two big pieces of meat will offer me a great feast", he said to himself.

However, no sooner had he opened his mouth to bark at the dog than the piece of meat in his mouth fell into the water and the current of the river washed away the piece. The dog immediately jumped into the river but he could not find the piece.

As there was a current in the river, the dog had to swim hard against the current to reach the bank. He was very tired and had no food to eat. Having found himself fooled by his own greediness, he started crying. "Greediness brings misery; I'll never be greedy", he promised himself.
