BNP Factions Clash in Lalpur, Two Injured
Two persons were injured in a clash between two rival factions of the ruling party at Gopalpur, in Lalpur upazila, on Friday night.
The clash ensued between the supporters of the Geda and Pappu groups after a chase and counter-chase between them, which was a backlash of a previous rivalry over sharing money from smuggled Indian goods and the appointment of employees in North Bengal Sugar Mills. Locals said the problem erupted between them as Mukul of the Pappu group looted sugar worth Tk 20,000 from the sugar mill on Monday, and the next day the Geda group seized the Indian sugar smuggled by the supporters of Pappu, putting a barricade at Lalpur Thana Ghat.
The injured, Fazlu, 27, and Tipu, 22, were admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.
