UPSCJ English Language Club — 20-Week Full 40-Session Syllabus

Schedule: Sessions are held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month at United Public School & College, Jamalpur. Each session is 45 minutes.

Week Session Topic Before During After
Week 1 1 Greetings & Introductions Recall common Bangla greetings; prepare 3 English greetings. Teacher models greetings, pair practice, whole-class role play. Write a “greeting diary” and practice daily.
2 Asking & Answering Simple Questions List 5 common questions in Bangla used with teachers/friends. Pair interviews, question chain game, listening comprehension. Prepare 5 Q&A dialogues to practice with peers.
Week 2 3 Classroom English: Permissions & Requests List situations where you ask teachers for help. Practice “May I…?”, “Could I…?”, role plays in pairs. Use at least 2 phrases during the next school day.
4 Everyday Dialogues Recall Bangla expressions used at home/market. Short role plays in pairs, listening to model audios. Record a short dialogue and submit audio.
Week 3 5 Introducing Yourself & Others Prepare 3 sentences introducing yourself and a friend. Pair introductions, small group role play, peer feedback. Write a short paragraph introducing yourself for homework.
6 Numbers, Dates, and Time List important dates/events in Bangla and convert to English. Oral exercises with dates/times, mini quizzes. Practice telling the time and dates to family/friends in English.
Week 4 7 Expressing Likes & Dislikes List favorite hobbies, foods, subjects in Bangla. Pair discussions, survey classmates, share preferences aloud. Write a paragraph about your hobbies using “I like…” and “I don’t like…”
8 Asking Directions & Locations Note local landmarks and how you usually ask for directions in Bangla. Role play “Asking for directions,” map exercises. Practice giving directions in English at home or with friends.
Week 5 9 Role Play: Shop & Market List items to buy/sell in Bangla, translate to English. Paired shop/market role play, polite requests, responses. Practice dialogues at home, record audio for review.
10 Storytelling: Short Stories Choose a short story from class reading list, note key points in Bangla. Narrate story aloud, peer feedback, vocabulary focus. Rewrite story in English, share with teacher or friends.
Week 6 11 Expressing Opinions Write 3 opinions about school life in Bangla. Pair/group discussion, teacher-guided corrections. Write a short paragraph using “I think…” and “In my opinion…”
12 Pronunciation & Intonation Practice Identify 10 commonly mispronounced words. Teacher-led pronunciation drills, minimal pairs exercises. Record pronunciation, practice daily for fluency.
Week 7 13 Reading Comprehension: Short Passages Preview vocabulary, underline unknown words. Read aloud, comprehension questions, peer discussion. Summarize passage in 3–4 sentences in English.
14 Vocabulary Games Review last week’s vocabulary list. Word matching, crosswords, Pictionary with peers. Create 5 sentences using new words for homework.
Week 8 15 Grammar Focus: Simple Present & Past Recall simple past/present examples in Bangla, translate 3 sentences. Guided exercises, sentence corrections, pair practice. Write a short diary entry using both tenses.
16 Group Discussion: School Life List 3 points about school life. Moderated group discussion, turn-taking practice. Write a summary paragraph about the discussion.
Week 9 17 Vocabulary Expansion: Academic Words Review last 2 weeks’ vocabulary lists. Flashcards, matching exercises, quizzes in pairs. Use at least 5 words in sentences in notebook.
18 Reading Skills: Skimming & Scanning Prepare 2 questions on a short passage. Read passage, locate answers quickly, group discussion. Summarize passage using key points only.
Week 10 19 Writing: Short Paragraphs Think of a topic from daily life. Guided paragraph writing, peer review. Rewrite paragraph at home, check grammar & vocabulary.
20 Listening Skills: Conversations Review common conversation topics. Listen to audio clips, answer questions, discuss in pairs. Practice listening with family/friends and summarize verbally.
Week 11 21 Paragraph Writing Choose topic. Guided writing. Review & revise.
22 Listening: News & Current Affairs Read summaries. Listen & answer questions. Write 3–4 sentence summary.
Week 12 23 Dialogue Writing List situations. Write dialogues & role play. Revise & record dialogues.
24 Reading: Skimming & Summarizing Select article. Skim, scan, discuss. Write short summary.
Week 13 25 Grammar: Past Continuous & Present Perfect Revise past tenses. Sentence exercises. Write 5 sentences correctly.
26 Speaking: Express Opinions Choose topics. Mini debates. Write reflection.
Week 14 27 Listening: Short Stories Preview vocab. Listen & answer. Retell story in own words.
28 Writing: Essay on Daily Life Brainstorm ideas. Write essay. Revise & edit.
Week 15 29 Vocabulary: Idioms & Phrasal Verbs Review idioms. Introduce new idioms & games. Write sentences.
30 Speaking: Role Plays Prepare scenario. Perform in class. Record & submit script.
Week 16 31 Reading: Short Articles & Reports Preview headings. Read & summarize. Write 3–4 sentence summary.
32 Writing: Letters & Emails List letter types. Draft letters. Peer exchange & feedback.
Week 17 33 Vocabulary: Collocations Review vocabulary. Collocation exercises. Write sentences.
34 Speaking: Short Presentations Choose topic. Give presentation. Record & revise script.
Week 18 35 Reading: Analysing Stories Skim & predict. Analyse plot & characters. Write character sketch.
36 Writing: Creative Writing Brainstorm ideas. Draft short story. Revise & submit.
Week 19 37 Speaking: Debates on Current Topics Prepare arguments. Conduct debate. Reflect & write lessons learned.
38 Listening: Comprehension & Note-taking Review vocab. Listen & take notes. Rewrite notes & prepare questions.
Week 20 39 Review & Mock Test Review notes. Complete mock test. Self-assess performance.
40 Final Showcase & Student Presentations Prepare 2–3 min presentation. Present to class & receive feedback. Reflect on overall progress.
