Narrative Essay Writing Project

📘 Narrative Essay Writing Project

Project Number 5 | English Composition

🎯 Project Objective

This project will help students write personal narratives by organizing thoughts, developing plot structure, and expressing emotions clearly.

📌 Choose One Topic

  • A day I’ll never forget
  • A difficult challenge I overcame
  • A surprise that changed my life

Students will explore how a narrative tells a real or imagined experience with:

  • Clear beginning, middle, and end
  • Conflict and resolution
  • Characters and setting
  • A personal message or lesson

Plan your story by thinking through the following narrative structure:

A. Beginning / Exposition

  • Main Situation or Problem: What is happening at the start of the story?
  • Lead-up: What events or details lead to the main action?

B. Middle / Rising Action

  • What are the key events that build tension or excitement?
  • (You can note at least three events that build up to the climax)

C. Climax

  • What is the turning point or most intense moment in the story?

D. Falling Action

  • What happens right after the climax?

E. Resolution

  • How is the main conflict or problem resolved?
  • Does the story share any message or life lesson?

F. Conclusion

  • Reflect on how the experience affected the character or changed them.

Write the story following the plan. Use:

  • First-person point of view (I, me, my)
  • Descriptive language and dialogue
  • Time order words (Then, Suddenly, Finally)

Add sensory details and spoken words to make the story come alive.

  • Describe: What did you see, hear, feel?
  • Show feelings: “I was terrified!”
  • Use dialogue: “Are you okay?” my friend asked.
  • Make sentences clearer and more interesting
  • Add or remove parts to improve flow
  • Check that the story makes sense
  • Correct grammar and punctuation
  • Check spelling and capitalization
  • Make sure dialogue uses quotation marks

Students will write 3–4 sentences reflecting on:

  • What they learned from the experience
  • How the writing process helped them express it
