Once upon a time, there was a greedy farmer who lived in a remote village. He used to earn his livelihood by working on others' land. Therefore, his life was full of hardship and necessity. But his luck started changing when he brought a wonderful wild duck from a remote jungle. The duck was lying injured on the side of a pond in the forest. He took the wounded duck to his house and started rearing it. In a short time, the duck became mature enough to lay eggs.

One day a miracle happened when the duck laid an egg. He noticed that the laid egg was not an ordinary one. It was a golden egg. Seeing the golden egg, the farmer became overwhelmed with happiness. The duck continued to lay eggs regularly. As a result, he became solvent by selling the golden eggs in the market. Now, he did not have to work on others' land.

"I can be the richest person if I can get all the golden eggs together from its belly", He talks to himself. "That is how I can earn social prestige, and people will surely respect the wealthiest man with special attention."

He shared his thought with his wife. But his wife did not agree with his plan. She was relatively wise, and she warned him not to do that. But he was so stupid and so absorbed in the idea of becoming the richest person that he nourished his plan in the deep core of his heart. "All the eggs are there in its belly, but my wife cannot understand it", he talks to himself. By selling them together I'll become rich, and that'll be a surprise for my wife." He was just waiting for a moment to materialize his wish.

One day, finding himself alone in his hut, he cut the duck's belly open with a sharp knife, but he didn't find a single egg in it. He sat on the ground with his hands on his head. "I've lost my duck' I've lost everything.", he was telling himself. "I've to work again on the lands of others from now onwards."

It was too late for the farmer to realize that he killed the useful duck out of his greediness. Thus, greediness may bring misfortune to a person.
